There is lot of difference between seeing a photo in an album and in a scrapbook. There are lots of factors to keep in mind before designing a scrapbook album. The most important element being getting the right size and design for the scrapbook. Mini albums are available at the sizes of 6x6 and 8x8. There are bigger sized albums that come in 8.5x11 cm. These are used to fix larger photos with much ease and write a statement about the picture. The bigger the size lot of embellishments can be put inside to add color to the scrapbook.

Scrapbook albums come in square and rectangular shapes and it is the discretion of the user to pick one according to their requirement. Your imagination is the limit when it comes to choose embellishments. They can be for fun or purpose. They can give life to your page. Using fancy titles and attractive borders are also part of scrapbooking. Background also plays a vital role while designing a scrapbook.

The aspects and functionalities of scrapbooking change with time. Keeping your scrapbook fresh and away from ageing is important. The paper used in a scrapbook should be given prior attention. Acid free paper need to be used that lasts longer. Paper has a strong effect when it comes to scrapbook ageing process. Usage of acid free paper can increase the longevity of the scrapbook. A chemical reaction called migration quickly crumbles the paper and the ageing process is heightened. Though acid free papers are expensive it is a clever idea to start your scrapbooking activity with these.

Exposing your leather scrapbook to direct sunlight or artificial light can speed up the ageing process. The reason being each color reacts differently to light and this causes fading of certain colors more quickly than others. Keep your scrapbook away from constant exposure to light. The process of color fading due to direct vulnerability to light is called ‘light fastness’. Hence it is advised to use inks and paints that have lightfast qualities. Moisture also plays spoil sport and increases the danger of ageing of scrapbooks. Keep your scrapbook in a clean, dry and dark place to increase its life span.
